We thoroughly enjoyed attending the recent Housing Finance conference, where we had the chance to connect with many industry professionals. It was a valuable opportunity to exchange insights, and we look forward to continuing these conversations.
During a breakout session and at our stand, we shared our experiences from the Netherlands and discussed our financial planning approach. A special thanks to Jonathan Fabris-Rotelli, Corporate Finance Director, for contributing to the session by sharing insights from the pilot project with our financial forecast software, WALS, at A2Dominion!
Key takeaways:
- Demand for alternative financial planning tools
There is a significant need for new and improved alternatives to existing financial planning tools. Several sessions highlighted the demand for integrated planning, which expands financial planning to include strategy, non-financials, and risk.

We also observed a growing demand for flexible planning software. As the landscape evolves, housing associations need the ability to quickly and accurately assess the impact of policy changes. Additionally, they require clear, well-organised ways to effectively present the outcomes. - Lack of a long-term plan for the sector
There is a lack of clarity on the sector’s total investment requirements, the portion that cannot be realised, and the societal impacts. In the Netherlands, National Performance Agreements have been established to address these challenges. We would be happy to facilitate connections between the English sector with the Dutch NHF or regulator.

Discussions on prioritising investment in existing stock versus new developments were a key focus. The regulator emphasised the importance of meeting minimum standards in existing stock while continuing to invest in new housing. Similar conversations are taking place in boardrooms and among stakeholders in the Netherlands.

The English housing sector faces significant challenges. While government support is crucial, technology, including AI, will play a significant role in addressing these issues. At Ortec Finance, we are committed to leveraging our technology and expertise to support the sector in achieving its social housing goals. - Impressive conference by National Housing Federation (NHF)
The National Housing Federation organises excellent conferences featuring engaging content, exceptional speakers, and a high calibre audience. - Dutch Stroopwafels
Dutch stroopwafels were a hit among English housing finance professionals!

We look forward to returning to Liverpool next year, hopefully in the same spot on the exhibition floor, as we were delighted with our stand. We look forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new contacts!
